All fans of bird watching will find Grootbos a treat. Bird lovers are able to enjoy unbeatable birding in the Western Cape with fellow birdwatchers at Grootbos Private Nature Reserve. Due to the large number of different habitats, ranging from Fynbos plains and mountains to forests and long stretches of coastline, a large number of different bird species can be found here.
107 bird species have been recorded in and around the Grootbos Reserve. Coastal birds such as the rare African Black Oystercatcher with its sleek black body and fluorescent red beak to the Cape Cormorant, large and powerful in their flocks, swooping over the clear blue waters of the cool sea in the bay. Other birds which enjoy frolicking and showing off their flying ability over the sea are the Swift Tern, the Crowned Petrel and the Cape Ganet.
At Grootbos, birding can be done on a guided walk, on horseback or on a 4×4 drive, all with experienced and knowledgeable guides, who are able to provide detailed and interesting information on the birds and flora experienced.
