The Southern Tip of Africa

South Africa, it is situated at the southernmost region of Africa with a coastline that extends for 2 500km over two great oceans. It is renowned for its natural beauty, rich cultural heritage and host of incredible, untamed animals. People don’t just come here for a holiday but for a once in a lifetime experience, and that is what we are offering you at Grootbos Private Nature Reserve.

A Trip to Remember…

Nestled in a valley lush with fynbos in the Western Cape Grootbos is a 5-star lodge offering you the most luxurious accommodation. Our guests are always pleasantly surprised to learn about our dynamic ecosystem and that we are passionate about conserving this natural wonder that surrounds us. The flora that has been discovered on the reserve bewildered botanists with its strange symbiotic relationship with insects, birds and nature. Take a flower safari and you will be completely taken aback by the allure of the blossoming flowers and the low fynbos bush once you get an intimate look.

This eco-lodge is also home to Milkwood forests that can gradually grow for a century. The animals in this region are jaw-dropping as well. It isn’t your usual lion meandering around, but instead the Marine Big 5 can be found swimming in the waters close to Grootbos. Grootbos is situated just inland from Walker Bay Nature Reserve, which is a whale watching mecca! The Southern right whales frequent the waters every year from winter to Christmas for a bit of fun in the African sun. Guests can take a quick trip to Hermanus or Gansbaai to be part of this spectacle. For true adventure-seekers there are organised trips to go shark cage diving and get personal with the King of the Ocean, the great white shark. The other mammals making up the Marine Big 5 are the seals around Dyer Island, African penguins and animated dolphins.
