Family Values

Grootbos Private Nature Reserve is nestled in the Western Cape, South Africa, where a bio-diverse fauna and flora blossom in a natural utopia of sheer beauty. The five star eco-lodge initially began as a private farm bought by the Lutzeyer family in 1991 with the idea of becoming a weekend getaway from their urban life. The Lutzeyers were soon in absolute ardour of the breath-taking scenery and decided to develop Grootbos into a B&B. It was a spiralling of events that led to them expanding the property and building lodges due to the enamour of their few guests and their own passion for the area. It gradually transformed from a modest B&B on a 124 hectare farm into a Private Nature Reserve of 2500 hectares with two world-class, five-star tar eco-lodges.

Despite the rapid transformation from something modest to something grand, the Lutzeyers maintained their vision of aiding the local community, conserving the diverse fynbos and holding on to family values. Forest Lodge is now the perfect destination for couples and businessmen, where Garden Lodge emanates luxury in a family-orientated environment. Children are welcome with open arms as Grootbos hopes to provide a one-of-a-kind family holiday where loved ones have the time and space to enjoy each other’s company in an incredible environment.

The all-inclusive package

An all-inclusive family holiday package allows the family to relish their holiday with little thought toward extra costs. The bulk of the holiday expenses can be known before setting foot out of home. However, we do not let the ‘package’ detract from the quality of our service in any way at all. There is a clear vision to achieve perfection in a harmonious manner. The price of the accommodation includes a night in one of the opulent suites on Grootbos, the two-bedroom luxury suite at Garden Lodge is ideal for families as the supreme interior comforts combined with incredible sweeping views create the ultimate lodging. A private balcony, a spacious lounge and dining area, lush bedrooms and chic bathrooms are all nestled in the magic of the indigenous Milkwood trees and fynbos. Our guests are welcomed to the day with a breakfast buffet and full English breakfast, and what a way to start the day than with fresh organic eggs collected straight from our chicken coup where the hens roam free! A light lunch is served at midday that consists of a gourmet buffet, mouth-watering meal and dessert. Dinner is pure indulgence as our team of gifted chefs create culinary masterpieces with a six-course meal and offer something yummy for the children. Families can dine together in the warm restaurant or the children can take an early meal and spend the evening playing in the Activities Room with a child-minder.

All our land-based activities are included and can be accompanied by a specialised guide. You and your family can take riveting horse rides on the 2500 hectare reserve (or a pony ride in the paddock for the young), 4x4 flower safaris, walks weaving through the Milkwood forest, family picnics on an untouched beach, explore limestone caves that are teeming with incredible secrets, take birding tours, and embark on a trip to the edge of the water for the best land-based whale watching in the world! There are maps for self-guided hikes, transfers to and from all activities and on arrival Grootbos shows their appreciation with a refreshing welcome drink and fresh fruit and flowers laid in your room on arrival. During season there are child-minders that will also be happy to watch our little guests as parents take the time to relax. The kids at Grootbos don’t stop grinning from ear to ear as they play with fluffy bunnies, ponies and enjoy the freedom of exploring a pristine wilderness.
