ABSA hosts Financial Management Workshop

During the past week, Vanessa Welby-Solomon from Absa Bank presented a two day workshop about Financial Management which was attended by the Green Futures and Growing the Future students as well as staff.

Vanessa discussed the difference between 'wants' and 'needs' and how they vary for different age groups. The students had to provide a list of expenses and then looked at various examples of fixed expenses, variable expenses and unexpected expenses and discussed the implication of each. They also had a look at examples of budgets and were given the task to look at their own budget for discussion.

Vanessa spoke to the students and staff about credit and what it means and what rights they have in terms of information. She also explained the meaning of credit ratings and how to manage debt. Vanessa shared the various options of saving money and our students were also encouraged to start saving now. Upon completion everyone received an attendance certificate.

We want to thank Vanessa and ABSA bank for taking the time to speak to our students! We all found it very beneficial and we hope to have her back next year!
