Growing the Future receives a new stove

During 2010, Fereshteh Yousefi volunteered at the Grootbos Foundation's Growing the Future project as part of research for her Master thesis.

Fereshteh stayed at Grootbos for six months working with the ladies at the Growing the Future project. She also joined Green Futures project for a while. As a Master student of “Organic Food Chain Management” at the University of Hohenheim in Germany, she explored the role of organic food production programs on achieving sustainable livelihoods and food security of marginalized groups especially unemployed women in rural areas. In 2011, she submitted her research under the topic “The impact of an organic food production and life skills training program on food security and livelihoods of unemployed rural women in South Africa– A case study”.

Fereshteh had a wonderful time at Grootbos! Upon her return to Germany, she raised funds so that the Foundation could purchase a stove for the project. She held a lecture at the University of Hohenheim to introduce the Foundation and Growing the Future project to the other students. During different events with the help of a student initiative, FRESH (Food Revitalization and Eco-gastronomic Society of Hohenheim), she could collect enough money for a stove to send it to the project.

Now at long last we have the stove and can't wait to use it to try out new recipes! On behalf of everyone at the Foundation, we want to thank Angel (Fereshteh) for her contribution to the Growing the Future ladies secondary produce training!
This greatly expands the possibilities of what we can teach them!
