Meet Asanda - Growing the Future students

I am Asanda Masela and I am 25 years old. I was born and raised in the Eastern Cape at the small town called Tsomo. I am the fourth child within eight children. I grew up with my grandmother. I passed my grade 12 in 2006. Now I stay Masakhane Township, Gansbaai.

I am so much interested in organic agriculture because I learned a lot about planting when I was still young. We were planting lots of different vegetables in the garden and having fun for that. It is also interesting to see a big pumpkin, spinach and so on from a small seed.

At Growing the Future, I learned how to grow plants without using chemical fertilizers, control pests by using organic sprays and companion planting. My favourite part is when we are planting, harvesting and designing of permaculture garden.

When the year is over I would like to have my own vegetable project. I want to learn more about organic agriculture or would like to work in the project where they do organic farming.
