Dibanisa Lesson 5.1: Creating Art Out of Our Environment

Posted under Eco-Tourism Blog by Grootbos on 1st September 2011

The theme of this week's Dibanisa lesson was Creating Art Out of Our Environment. We learnt how to reduce, reuse and recycle. Art teacher, Carla Gouws, talked to the children about why it is important to recycle and discussed a variety of art and conservation phrases with the children.

Once the formal part of the lesson was complete, Carla showed the children to make a pencil holder from a recycled tin. Carla shared various ideas with the children as to what to do their tins. Once the kids decided on what they would like to do, Carla assisted the kids to make their vision a reality. Each child expressed their creativity in a different way and the results were amazing! While the kids were waiting for their tins to dry, each one got the opportunity to paint or draw a picture!

At the end of the class, we had a show and tell and got to see each child's pencil holder and drawing!

We are looking forward to our beach clean up with the Dyer Island Conservation Trust next week!
