It is almost that mystical and mythical time of the year again - Saint Valentine's Day! Traditionally, 14 February is that one day in the year when lovers and the romantic at heart embrace the opportunity to demonstrate their love and affection for their sweethearts in a more explicit and lavish way.

Everywhere you look around . . .

At Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, we LOVE the idea of love and romance! In the rising of the sun . . .

Surprise your loved one with an early morning horse ride or hike through dew-dappled fynbos fields to watch the sun's first rays flirtingly caress the mountain tops. Various trails meandering through flowering fynbos and Milkwood forests provide exquisite "lover's lanes" with panoramic sea and mountain views. Or spoil your Valentine with an intimate champagne breakfast on the deck of your private chalet and toast the break of day over the endless Atlantic Ocean . . .

In the thunder of the sea . . .

What is more romantic than a leisurely stroll along a pristine white beach and having a sunset picnic at the water's edge while a brilliant sun performs a love dance on the horizon? Sing that love song and read that poem while the seabirds and the waves applaud and give roaring consent . . .

In the whisper of the trees . . .

Love . . . a small word probably most used in any language - not only by poets, songwriters and romantics, but also by ordinary folks to describe the most magic and strongest force in the universe. No matter where you tread or trot on the Grootbos reserve, you will find ample inspiration to write, sing or act your own love poem. Enjoy a romantic breakfast or lunch at the cozy Lapa, where the ancient Milkwood trees silently share their age old knowledge and words of wisdom with those who listen . . .

When the day is nearly done . . .

Relax with a sundowner at the pool area and treat your sweetheart to a romantic five-course Valentine's dinner at our renowned restaurant where nature's bliss and beauty enhance the exquisite mood and food . . .

And it's there when I look in your eyes . . .

No matter what and how you plan to spoil your Valentine, we have it (and more) in abundance! We provide the perfect setting, the ambience and the goodies . . . but the rest is up to you!

* Many myths and mysteries surround the origin of the Saint Valentine's Day celebrations on 14 February. One popular version is that Valentine was a priest sentenced to death by the Emperor of Rome during the third century for secretly marrying young lovers when it was against the law for soldiers to get married. Valentine was thus prepared to die for his quest to uphold the sanctuary of LOVE against all odds - already during the volatile and barbaric Early Middle Ages! The fact that this specific day, dedicated to love and romance, has over the ages stood the test of time across all creeds and cultures, is testimony to mankind's primal need of, and fascination with, this strongest magnetic force in the universe - true love!
