Meet the Change Makers

Passionate about our inspiring people working behind the scenes at Grootbos, we invite all of our guests, partners and donors (past, present or potential) to participate in the interactive and enlightening ‘Living the Future Tour’.

From Fynbos to Football

First off, we’ll visit the Green Futures project, a Horticulture and Life Skills College set in a beautiful stone-clad building surrounded by Milkwood. Here you will not only bare witness to breath-taking far reaching views of Walker Bay, but you will meet the students while they tend to their seeds and cuttings in the college’s greenhouse; prune the indigenous plants in the nursery; or attend a theory session in the classroom.

Then we’ll take a short, scenic drive through the reserve to the Siyakhula Organic Farm. Here you can meet the inspiring women of the Food Production and Life Skills College; see the fruits of their labour: row upon row of leafy, organic vegetables; beehives dotted amongst the fynbos; free range chickens; free range pigs and much much more.

After that it’s another quick drive to visit the epicentre of community development that is the Football Foundation. You will meet the future of the Gansbaai and see how sport is used a tool for societal development. You will set foot upon the state of the art facility; one of the first of its kind in South Africa and your presence will be blessed by an abundance of sporting and social talent.

At your request, you can also take a further look into the local township of Masakhane and the community of Blompark, home to many of our students and coaches, team members and success stories. At any point, you can combine this tour with a visit to our forest rehabilitation project, Future Trees. Get your hands dirty, put down some roots and contribute to the greening of our globe by planting a seed – leave your own legacy at Grootbos Private Nature Reserve and receive your personal certificate, and GPS coordinates of your tree so you can locate it at your next visit.

A Living Legacy

A Living the Future tour adds a whole new layer of significance to so many aspects of the Grootbos experience. Perhaps the most emotive and meaningful experience, the tour itself provides tangible evidence of the need for providing opportunities and routes out of the socio-economic stresses many South African communities face. The Grootbos Private Nature Reserve and its Grootbos Foundation aim to set an example not just to Gansbaai, the Western Cape or South Africa, but to the broader African continent.

Contact your nearest Grootbos staff member to find out how you can make a difference that counts.
