Gansbaai is one of the Western Cape’s best kept secrets and an absolute hidden jewel in the South African tourism industry. This little piece of unspoilt heaven with its breath taking natural surroundings and unlimited holiday activities for the entire family will keep you occupied, exhilarated and enthusiastic throughout your entire stay!

Gansbaai was originally a popular fishing village, but these days it offers everything from water based activities, like whale watching and shark diving to 4x4 excursions, hiking trails, festivals and of course the amazing coastline and kilometres of white sandy beaches.

You can begin your journey at De Kelders magnificent cliffs, or enjoy the hot summer sun and the refreshing ocean waves of Pearly Beach. It is also one of the most exclusive and amazing land-based whale watching hot spots around the globe. Gansbaai has become famous for being the great white shark capital and a few kilometres from Dyer Island’s penguin colony is “Shark Alley,” where a large community of seals also play and frolic in the water.

Gansbaai is synonymous with sea life excursions and water based adventures and has been nicknamed the “coast of contrasts,” it is a sanctuary for divers who come to explore wrecks from ancient ships that could not handle the devious waters and hidden jagged rocks close to the shore. On land there are just as many activities to enjoy. There are an abundance of caves to explore, nature trails to follow where you will rediscover your soul and over 1,500 species of fynbos, which grow exclusively in the Cape and only a select few areas around the rest of South Africa.

One of Gansbaai’s most popular and well known events during the year is the Easter crayfish festival, but you do not need to wait until the day of the celebrations to enjoy first class seafood, most restaurants and eateries serve fresh cuisine straight from the ocean and abalone, a delicacy in East Asian countries is professionally cultivated at a number of farms on Dangerpoint.
