The architecture of Garden Lodge draws inspiration from the abundance of natural beauty surrounding it. Ceiling beams mimic the branches of the hallowed ancient milkwood trees. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow the natural light to enter the space, and accentuate the expansive views on all sides. It’s all about bringing the outside in, and creating a unique, fully immersive experience.
At Grootbos, we’re passionate about living sustainably and in harmony with nature. This ethos has guided all our endeavours, and was vital during the rebuild of Garden Lodge. Re-using materials from the original building, implementing eco-friendly water and waste management practices, and the use of solar and other clean energy sources, are just some of the sustainability features of the newly rebuilt lodge, moving us closer to clean, responsible living.

The temperature-controlled pool welcomes visitors all year round. A smaller heated plunge pool is ideal for cocktails and nature-gazing.
Our all-new entertainment area features a forest-inspired interior, an outdoor courtyard, and a range of activities and programmes for kids.

We had a suite in the Forest Lodge with a private pool. It was absolutely incredible.
Our villa was really great, a sea view straight out from the bed, a beautiful fireplace and one of the best bathrooms I've ever seen!

Kids’ entertainment at Garden Lodge has never been more exciting. Complete with a huge outdoor courtyard and a forest-inspired indoor play area boasting a ceiling canopy inspired by milkwood branches, the kids area also features a jungle gym, and specially tailored kids’ programmes to ensure that young visitors are safe and entertained for hours.
Grootbos is a world leader in sustainable tourism and has been awarded some of the highest international accolades possible, making us one of only a handful of lodges to achieve this.
The last year has been a busy one at Grootbos. We rebuilt our beloved Garden Lodge entirely and re-opened it in April 2022. We also officially launched the Grootbos Florilegium - Africa's first contemporary florilegium - which is a collection of botanical illustrations created by local and international artists, depicting the charismatic plants found on our reserve and the surrounding regions.
