Growing the Future: Cob making at Koudeberg

Posted under Eco-Tourism Blog by Grootbos on 23rd July 2012

Dianne taught the ladies how to use a cob for building. Cob is a building material made up of clay, sand, straw and water.

She showed them how to make cob instead of going to the shop to buy cement. The ladies mixed all the materials which are mentioned above.

It was a very funny activity. We took off our shoes so that we can mix the cob.

After that we made balls and threw them against the wall in process.

Then we covered the wall with our hands as if we are cementing.

Koudeberg is just using whatever is around them and this is amazing. We can't wait to practice this on our communities too!

Shhh! A secret... Instead of using oxen and a tractor to plough, they use pigs!
