Third Dibanisa group for 2011

The third Dibanisa group for 2011 kicked off on the 4th of August. This term, twenty learners from the Okkie Smuts Primary school will be participating in this environmental education programme!

Our first lesson took place at Growing the Future on Grootbos. They very kindly made their shed and classroom available to us! Susan, from Green Futures, gave the introductory lesson, telling the children more about what they can expect in the next six weeks. Susan also introduced our mascot, Diban the Dolphin, to the kids. Dollie Darling, resident cat, did her best to make the kids feel welcome!

We learnt more about the coastal and fynbos ecosystems, and elements within the ecosystems which are dead and alive. To illustrate this, we went for a walk through the magnificent fynbos, which led us to Steynsbos, one of Grootbos four Milkwood forests, illustrating the difference between two different ecosystems.

Our next lesson will take place at Green Futures, where we will learn more about plants and fynbos! We can't wait to spend more time with the lovely children from Okkie Smuts!
