Your Choice Makes A Difference ? The Grootbos Foundation

Your visit to Grootbos is about much more than just five star accommodation and eco adventures. What if we told you your visit had a direct positive impact upon the unique natural environment of the Walker Bay Region and its people? To find out how you are inspiring and creating sustainable change in our region, below you will find information about the Grootbos Foundation – our ground-breaking and award winning non-profit organisation.

From the beginning, Grootbos has been committed to the conservation of the region’s biodiversity; as well as developing sustainable livelihoods through ecotourism, enterprise development, sports development and education.

Established in 2003 with the VISION of transforming communities and conserving our environment through the creation of sustainable livelihoods and active citizenship, the Grootbos Foundation innovatively creates and implements researched project models and programmes. These programmes are replicable and scalable in order to assist the communities that surround us, and those in other regions. Many of our projects generate their own income and/or are partially self-sustaining.

The Foundation’s implementation strategies are based on three integrated ‘umbrella’ programmes:

Funds generated by the Grootbos ecotourism business, together with donations received from guests and external donors are invested through the foundation’s key programmes. In this way, all Grootbos guests directly support our aims of biodiversity conservation and social development in the Walker Bay region. Click here to meet the Grootbos Foundation Team.
