Day 1 - Overview

Arrive at Grootbos Private Nature Reserve and enjoy a delicious lunch made from seasonal ingredients in the restaurant or outside on the deck. After checking into your private suite and some relaxation time, it’s time to saddle up for a horse ride through the Reserve. Take in the beautiful views over the fynbos landscapes reaching towards the sparkling waters of Walker Bay. Back at the Lodge, it’s time to sip on some sundowners and watch as the [Autumn] sun dips behind the Indian Ocean before sitting down to a 6-course dinner.

Day 2 - Overview

Start the day with a good breakfast before heading out on a 4x4 flower safari to learn all about the magical Cape Floral Kingdom and view our precious Erica irregularis in full bloom. Next, suit up to harvest honey with our beekeeper and join your guide to harvest veggies from the organic gardens. After a delectable lunch, take some time to explore the Lodge and take in the natural beauty that surrounds you. In the evening, make your way to the cellar for a special food and wine pairing with our Sommelier.

Day 3 - Overview

After a delicious breakfast in the restaurant or on the outside deck, get ready to find the beauties of the fields on a bird watching experience. Continue your exploration of nature’s wonders with a guided walk through the ancient Milkwood forests. After lunch it’s time to head down to the beautiful De Plaat beach to forage for mussels and enjoy some sundowners. Back at the Lodge, join our Executive Chef for a cooking lesson and enjoy another divine 6-course dinner.

Day 4 - Overview

Rise early and enjoy a hot beverage and light snack before heading to the Kleinbaai Harbour. Here you’ll board our luxury vessel and head off to marvel at the wonder of the Marine Big 5 (Southern Right Whales, Great White Sharks, Indo-Pacific Bottlenose Dolphins, Cape Fur Seals, African Penguins). Once back at the Lodge and packed, it’s time to say goodbye with a heart filled with magical memories of the Secret Season at Grootbos.

Saddle up for a horse riding adventure through the fynbos fields and on to gallop in the surf on the beach. Take on our new mountain biking trails that lead you through the Reserve and Flower Valley beyond.

Cave Tours & Mussel Foraging

Explore the history of the ancient coastal caves of Walker Bay and learn all about the landscapes of yesteryear. Get the chance to forage for mussels and prepare them with our executive chef in the Grootbos Kitchens.

Food & Wine Experiences

Prepare once in a lifetime meals with our executive chef or have a wine experience with award-winning local wines. This is an experience your taste buds will not soon forget!

Tour the Gardens

Head to the Siyakhula farm to pick your own fresh veggies and learn more about our Growing the Future project. Visit the Grootbos Nursery and explore the lush gardens that surround the Lodges.

Guided Walks and hikes

Experience the incredible diversity of fauna and flora at Grootbos with a walking tour along our trails. Our knowledgeable guides will take you on an inspiring journey through this ancient and unique destination filled with entertaining and interactive stories.

Nature, marine & coastal drives & walks

Explore our 791 species of flowers over 2500 hectares of pristine wilderness on one of our 4x4 safari drives or cruise along our coastal roads and look out for one or more of our famous Marine Big 5.

Honey Harvesting

Join our very own beekeeper as he heads to the fields to harvest honey from our hives. Learn all about the busy bees and their hives, and how the olden honey they produce is used in the making of various dishes, including our popular home-made honey ice cream.

Erica irregularis

View the beautiful pink blossoms of the Erica irregularis as the burst into bloom during the Secret Season. Found nowhere else in the world, this Erica is the main attraction this time of year.

Breakfast Buffet & English Breakfast Menu

Start each day with a hearty and delicious breakfast made from locally sourced ingredients. Our executive chef, Benjamin Conradie is ready to cater to any specific tastes and requirements.

Transfers to/from all activities

Transfers to/from both included and additional activities are included in your rate. Airport transfers can be arranged with reservations prior to arrival at an additional cost.

3-course lunch

Our delectable three-course lunch will get you ready to set out for your afternoon adventures. All of our dishes are made from fresh ingredients sourced straight from the garden or from the local harbours.
