Foundation Hockey players got the chance of a lifetime to meet three times Olympic medallist Timo Wess on Tuesday 23 October 2012.

Timo was part of the German Hockey team that won a Bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics in Greece; captained the team that won Gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and Gold at the 2012 Olympics in London.

We were absolutely delighted to welcome one of Germany’s most successful Hockey players to Gansbaai. The young hockey players have worked extremely hard over the past year and to see that work rewarded with a visit from a truly inspirational athlete gave them a training day they will never forget. The kids were really happy to meet with Timo and to learn more about what it takes to pursue a sporting career. They also got to play a game with Timo which was definitely the highlight!

Timo found out about the Hockey Project through a dear friend of his Steffen Friedrich who was head of sponsorship for Adidas in Germany. Friedrich passed away unexpectedly last year and in honour of his life, his friends, family and Adidas made a generous donation at the annual Alster Club fundraiser in Hamburg for the project.
