Restaurants at Grootbos
LIGHT. SPACE. VIBRANCY. VIEW.
That's what bowls you over when entering either one of the two restaurants at Grootbos Nature Reserve - the more contemporary designed Red Indigo and the cozy, African style The Garden restaurant.
Scenic celebration of all the senses
It's a subtle celebration of all the senses - as much a feast to the eye and aura as to the palate. Served with style and finesse in an idyllic setting of architectural genius aimed at accentuating, rather than competing with, the unsurpassed beauty of sun, sea, sky and luscious flowering fynbos.
Both restaurants boast high beamed ceilings and windows galore to fuse with nature - maximising the sense of open space and spectacular views across Walker Bay and mesmerizing sunsets. Open fireplaces and soft lighting create cozy warmth in winter. Open decks and pool areas provide outdoor bliss and beauty in summer.
Setting the culinary stage is Duane Lewis, maestro of the gastronomical artworks on display. Only 32, he has his head in the clouds and his hands sculpting colourful creations with exquisite flavours and tastes which flow from his inspirational workplace - solid Milkwood trees set amidst colourful bursts of flowers and lush fynbos foliage overlooking sea and sky.
Duane is the Executive Chef in charge of a staff of 20 equally inspired food fundi’s. Having travelled the globe and being intrigued by the mystique of food since a teenager, he manages both internationally acclaimed restaurants with a flair and passion born from a natural attunement and true love of the culinary art.
Superb Cuisine Served On Nature’s Pallet
Using mostly fresh, seasonal produce from Grootbos and the neighbouring farms, he has a knack to blend and fuse Oriental flavours with traditional dishes to create unique and tantalising combinations that please even the most critical connoisseur's taste buds.
Succulent beef fillets, seared duck livers with cumquat compote and coriander-flavoured dark chocolate delicacies attest to his fine-tuned skills and gift to compliment and accentuate exactly the right flavours, textures and colours to hit the spot! He encourages the same originality and dare in his staff, but always with the needs, likes and wants of the guests in mind.
Cozy bars stocked with a selection of the finest local wines from the Grootbos cellar add the final touch to a phantasmagorical culinary experience, set amidst nature's sublime decor.
Red Indigo is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
