Summer is here and we are ready to get things started here at Grootbos. We love what we do, and we love sharing that love with you. We always strive to create the best experience for not only our guests, but for everyone at Grootbos. Our staff is constantly seeking ways on how to improve themselves and the Grootbos experience. We feel it is important that everyone feels like family, and the best way to do that is to get to know one another. We’d like you to meet Zimba, Sandi and Simnikiwe – three of our very talented bartenders at Grootbos.
Sandi Notwala is 31 years old and studied at the Grootbos Green Future College. She initially studied housekeeping and then moved into bartending. This is where her passion for bartending grew.
Sandi has created a cocktail to begin all cocktails. She combines Campari and soda to kick start the evening for guests with this refreshing aperitif. Her motto is to be confident in your abilities and emote pride in your work.
Simnikiwe is one of our youngest barmen. At just 24 years old, he’s come a long way. He loves meeting new people and his kindness is contagious.
Simnikiwe created the ‘Sage Beekeper’ by mixing wild sage from the gardens, Inverroche gin, fresh orange juice and Grootbos honey. He created this beauty to showcase the gifts available(Link to Gifts of Nature blog) from the area. This cocktail will keep you coming back for more!
Zimka is one of our veteran waitresses. She’s been working at Grootbos since 2007. Also passionate about creating unique experiences, Zimka concocted a tantalizing iced tea for these hot summer days. It’s all natural in its sweetness and all goodness in its taste.

Grootbos is a world leader in sustainable tourism and has been awarded some of the highest international accolades possible, making us one of only a handful of lodges to achieve this.
The last year has been a busy one at Grootbos. We rebuilt our beloved Garden Lodge entirely and re-opened it in April 2022. We also officially launched the Grootbos Florilegium - Africa's first contemporary florilegium - which is a collection of botanical illustrations created by local and international artists, depicting the charismatic plants found on our reserve and the surrounding regions.
