South Africa’s Gold Medal-Winning Floral Exhibit Is Coming Home

Grootbos is thrilled to announce that South Africa’s stunning floral exhibit, which triumphed at the Chelsea Flower Show with three prestigious awards, is coming to Stanford from September 21 to October 6 2024.

Just as a World Cup victory lifts the nation's spirits, South Africa's Gold Medal win at the Chelsea Flower Show has filled us with pride and joy. Our nation's beautiful proteas, showcased in an exquisite design by Leon Kluge, garnered a gold medal, the Best in the Pavilion and Best New Design awards.

Grootbos, in collaboration with Leon Kluge, decided it was time for this breathtaking display to come home for all South Africans to experience. An exact full-sized replica of the award-winning design will be built for visitors to admire on their home turf. We are excited to share the beauty of fynbos with its natural custodians and to celebrate this victory with our local community.

What's new at Grootbos - New Garden Lodge and Florilegium

The last year has been a busy one at Grootbos. We rebuilt our beloved Garden Lodge entirely and re-opened it in April 2022. We also officially launched the Grootbos Florilegium - Africa's first contemporary florilegium - which is a collection of botanical illustrations created by local and international artists, depicting the charismatic plants found on our reserve and the surrounding regions.
