Luxury with a Conscience

The two five-star eco-resorts of Grootbos Private Nature Reserve are tucked away amongst rare and ancient Milkwood forests, Afromontane forests and bio-diverse fynbos. The proximity of untouched beaches and the wealth of indigenous vegetation make it the ideal location for a luxurious eco-resort.

When the Lutzeyer family purchased this property years ago it was because of its sheer beauty and bountiful environment. At the time it only hosted one dilapidated farm house and the lush fynbos was being challenged by alien vegetation, farming and general mismanagement. The Lutzeyers saw this as an opportunity to create something grand and to give back to the community and sustain the environment. To stand in one of the 5-star lodges today overlooking the sprawling views of fynbos, mountains and the Walker Bay Nature Reserve it is hard to believe that they built this thriving world-class eco-resort from nothing.

As the resort grew into something magnificent that provides guests with the ultimate experience and luxury accommodation, the vision of giving back was never lost. The Grootbos Foundation was created and this branch of Grootbos manages the conservation efforts and contribution to the local community. Guests can learn more about these endeavours by taking a Social Responsibility Tour through the Green Futures and Growing the Future colleges, to the sports field in Gansbaai or a 4x4 flower safari, each one is a riveting excursion that will be sure to enlighten. Every guest that comes to Grootbos is in essence supporting the efforts of the Grootbos Foundation, but to really make a difference there are volunteer programs, the option to donate or buy a Milkwood tree that will be planted in your name and stand for a thousand years to come.
