Ever-Changing, Ever-Evolving | A Grootbos Update

Just as nature is always evolving, so too does Grootbos. We are always looking for ways to make your time with us feel even more special by fine-tuning and elevating the experience you have already come to know and love.

Here is a glimpse into what we have been up to behind the scenes over the past year…

Unwind in Nature

To help even the busiest traveller slow down and reconnect with nature and themselves, we have elevated our wellness experience with a rebuild of our Forest Lodge Spa and by incorporating new experiences such as meditative Forest Bathing.

Hidden amongst our Milkwood forest's ancient and gnarled trees, the newly rebuilt Forest Lodge Spa is a place of pure tranquillity. Spa treatments are enhanced by the purifying forest air and the chorus of birdsong that filters in through the windows. It is a peaceful retreat where nature becomes part of every treatment.

Another way we have brought a sense of mindfulness and serenity with nature is through our Forest Bathing Experience. Our skilled guides lead the way through the ancient Milkwood forests and invite you to engage with the natural world at a slower, more conscious pace through meditative exercises. Soak in the calming energy of the trees, breathe in healing air, and feel more grounded. It is a powerful way of reducing stress and boosting your well-being.

More Than a Meal

We understand how important healthy and mindful eating is to you. This awareness has inspired us to create not just a new menu but a new approach to the entire dining experience. What makes our menu so special is that it focuses on vegan and vegetarian options to promote healthy and nutritious dining. Each dish also has a recommended protein pairing that complements the ingredients.

We take great pride in our South African culture, and there’s no better way to celebrate it than through food. Our new menu highlights a few local favourites, from bobotie, infused with Cape Malay curry spices, to Tshisa Nyama, inspired by the bold, flame-grilled flavours of isiXhosa cuisine.

The Joy Of Family

Creating unforgettable family moments at Grootbos has always been so important to us. There is something truly special about seeing different generations spend time together while holidaying in nature.

To make these shared experiences even more memorable, we created a new kids’ programme called Grootbos Explorers. It was designed to inspire curiosity, adventure, and a deeper appreciation for nature while strengthening family bonds through unforgettable moments. Kids are encouraged to go out and explore the reserve through gamified experiences that reward the most curious and adventurous explorers.

Memorable Highlights From The Past Year

The only consistent thing about Grootbos is that we are ever-changing. Making great strides forward for conservation, sustainability, and hospitality is what drives us each day.

What's new at Grootbos - New Garden Lodge and Florilegium

The last year has been a busy one at Grootbos. We rebuilt our beloved Garden Lodge entirely and re-opened it in April 2022. We also officially launched the Grootbos Florilegium - Africa's first contemporary florilegium - which is a collection of botanical illustrations created by local and international artists, depicting the charismatic plants found on our reserve and the surrounding regions.
